Crisis text and online emotional support are a fast growing area of crisis intervention nationwide. As our society relies more heavily on technology to interact, communicate, and connect with each other, there has been an ever growing need to provide crisis services in a modality that is increasingly preferred over telephone communication. Nowhere is this more evident than in our youth.
Yolo County student respondents to our school program surveys noted time after time that they would use a local crisis text line if one were available to them. In fall of 2017, Suicide Prevention secured funding to begin the development, training, and set-up process for this valuable program and in spring of 2018, the crisis text line was made available to young people within our community.
