This year, as it has been for the last 52 years, while most people are pulling their beautifully roasted turkeys out of the oven, slicing into pumpkin pies, gathering around to watch the football game, or gearing up for Black Friday sales, our crisis line volunteers will be here. As hard-working community volunteers and agencies share moving stories and pictures of supplies, meals, and donations given, our crisis line volunteers will be here. They keep our lines open and available through Christmas, New Year’s, and everyday.
Our crisis line volunteers serve tirelessly and anonymously, saving lives and connecting with callers in pain, year after year.
This year, on Giving Tuesday, please consider honoring the work our volunteers do by making a contribution to Suicide Prevention, where every dollar goes toward saving lives, preventing crises, educating our community and schools about signs and risk factors, and connecting people to the help they so desperately need.
On November 27th, Facebook and PayPal will be matching up to $250,000 to nonprofits starting 5 AM PST (no fees!). If you’d like to donate, please visit this link.
Don’t have Facebook but want to give online? Feel free to give HERE at Suicide Prevention’s PayPal Giving Fund page (no fees either!).
We are reaching out with a special request for a donation and/or to purchase tickets for our raffle. For the past 35 years, Suicide Prevention of Yolo County has been providing a school-based education and prevention program – “SOS-Signs of Suicide®”, but due to funding reductions we are in serious jeopardy of having to cut-back on this important life-saving program.
Students who receive the “SOS-Signs of Suicide®” program learn about the warning signs of suicide, and how to seek help for themselves or for others. Our program also incorporates the difficult emotional times that teens experience due to bullying, social difficulties, peer and academic pressures, and changes in the home environment.
We must find ways to help and protect our youth. As we can no longer support this program on our own, we are reaching out to the community for financial support.
We hope that you will help up us though your donation so we can continue to present this life-saving information to the children of our community. Local businesses have generously responded by donating items for our raffle basket valued at over $500 (including gift cards, products, and admission tickets).
All of the money raised will be used to replace the classroom presentations that we will otherwise be unable to support in this upcoming school year.
The winner will be drawn the week of Thanksgiving, so you still have time to buy a ticket (or 5)! Go to the Donate link to buy tickets online (just note in the Notes section how many raffle tickets you’d like) or send a check to:

This once a month group provides a place for people who have lost someone to suicide. With the aid of a professional facilitator, group members help each other through the painful grief associated with a suicidal death. It is free and open to anyone.
Please note that there have been several date changes for the Summer and Fall 2018 Volunteer Trainings!!
Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed and with each subsequent year, we’ve been able to bring more and more awareness to issues of mental wellness, mental illness, and the need to treat our mental well-being in addition to physical well-being. For more information on how you can get involved, check out these links below as well as follow SPYC on social media (Facebook, Twitter) to stay connected!
Our Giving from the Heart Fundraiser Dinner was one of our most successful fundraisers yet! Thank you to all the guests, donors, sponsors, staff, volunteers, and, of course, Mary Philip for helping us continue providing life-saving crisis services to our community!
